Sierra Club Endorses Mike Beaudreau for Gwinnett County Commission

Lawrenceville GA June 17, 2004 – The Greater Gwinnett Group of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Mike Beaudreau for the third district Gwinnett County Commission Race. The group made its selection after sending out an issues survey and talking to each of the candidates for the race.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Gwinnett Sierra Club," Beaudreau commented. "I am committed to preserving the homeowner and small business friendly quality of life we have in the county and the protecting the environment is an important part of that responsibility."

In his campaign, Beaudreau has said that if elected, he would propose changes that would strengthen the county’s Landscape, Buffer and Tree ordinance.

He has also said that he will adhere to the county's Land Use Plan when making rezoning decisions, and will solicit input from community groups and nearby homeowners about proposed new development in their neighborhoods.

Group chairman Curt Smith said, "We believe that Mike’s election would be great for District 3. It would bring a breath of fresh air to the political environment in Gwinnett County. Mike’s interest in preserving trees, protecting our streams and water resources and his commitment to homeowner friendly growth shows that conservatism can be used to protect the environment, along with the health and safety of our neighborhoods." Mike also stated his commitment for strict enforcement of state and county laws covering water protection and soil sedimentation. Mike would also require development plans to have the required stream buffers and would advocate lot line buffers that would go a long way to prevent the kinds of wholesale degradation that’s occurred in District 3 in the past 4 years.
