Mike Beaudreau Remembers Ronald Reagan, D-Day

Lawrenceville, GA June 6, 2004 – Gwinnett County Commission District 3 candidate Mike Beaudreau today noted the passing of former President Ronald Reagan, and the sixtieth anniversary of D-Day.

"President Reagan has always been one of my political role models," Beaudreau noted. "As a true conservative, he believed in his country, and never wavered in support of the ideas he felt would move the United States forward. His efforts to lower taxes, encourage personal responsibility, and end the Cold War paved the way for the growth and prosperity we experienced in the late twentieth century."

D-Day, which took place on June 6, 1944, marked the turning point in World War II. Over 150,000 Allied troops began a march through France that would lead to Germany’s defeat less than a year later.

"The willingness of our troops, who had been fighting the war for well over two years, to begin a massive invasion into hostile territory showed their true character. The military command, soldiers, and the American People were united in their support for protecting freedom and liberty, no matter what the cost."

"We are now in the midst of a War on Terror that represents as much of a threat to our freedoms as Hitler did sixty years ago. I pray that President Bush and our troops in the Middle East will continue to show the same resolve that our military did on that day in 1944."
