Mike Beaudreau to Qualify For Gwinnett Commission Third District Race

Lawrenceville, GA, April 24, 2004 - Mike Beaudreau announced that he will file his notice of candidacy for the July 20th primary election on Monday, April 26th at 11AM. He will qualify as a Republican candidate for the Third District Gwinnett County Commission seat. Qualifying will be held at The Plastics Group, 1675 Lakes Parkway in Lawrenceville.

"Qualifying for the election formalizes a decision that I made last year to run for the Third District seat on the Gwinnett Commission", Beaudreau said. "I decided to run because I believe the other candidates do not properly represent the interests of homeowners and small businesses in the district. If elected, I will restore trust and ethics to the district 3 post."

Restoring a reasonable balance between encouraging the county's growth and preserving the quality of life enjoyed by its citizens is one of Mike's highest priorities if elected. The increasing number of trailers that surround even newly-built schools, and constant traffic delays on roads overburdened by new subdivisions are symptoms of development that has not been properly planned.

The candidate also hopes to make county government more open and accessible by meeting regularly with residents to learn their interests and needs, and by not accepting contributions from developers. He will also work to lower the tax rate on homeowners by requiring developers to pay a greater share of infrastructure costs when they build new subdivisions.

Beaudreau commented, "With less than 90 days to go before the primary election, voters are beginning to pay attention to the issues that affect them and their quality of life. I plan to continue to meet with district residents, listening to their concerns, and explaining my positions."

The third district covers a wide portion of the southern part of Gwinnett County, including the cities of Snellville, Grayson, Centerville, and Dacula, and portions of Lilburn, Lawrenceville, Stone Mountain, and Loganville. The district's size means that there are both rapidly growing areas in portions of the county that were recently agricultural, and more mature areas closer to Atlanta that need to be maintained to preserve the area's quality of life.

Mike Beaudreau is a National Accounts Manager for Ricoh Corporation, and has been a Gwinnett County resident for the past five years.
