Evermore CID Celebrates Completion of Highway 78 Improvements
Mike addresses the attendees at the Grand Re-Opening.
On May 22nd, the Evermore Community Improvement District held ceremonies at the Stone Mountain Tennis Center to mark the completion of the seven mile long upgrade to Highway 78. The upgrade included widening the road to six lanes and removing the reversible lanes, adding better directional signage and installing better timed traffic signals.
In his remarks to those in attendance, Mike noted that while the improvements make a big difference for the district, there is more work to be done to ensure the success of the corridor.
Mike noted the efforts of Gwinnett County, Congressman John Linder, the Georgia DOT and the Evermore CID in making the project successful.
Mike is welcomed to the podium by Evermore CID Executive Director Jim Brooks.
After the ceremonies, Mike listens to additional ideas for the district from Executive Director Brooks.
Library Opens Newest Branch at Hamilton Mill
Commissioner Beaudreau joined many residents of the Hamilton Mill area in celebrating the grand opening of the county's newest library branch. The 20,000 square foot building is built to LEED environmental standards.
At left, Mike speaks to the gathering at the ribbon cutting, telling visitors that the opening of the library is the realization of a long-time dream by area residents. Below, the ribbon is cut, officially opening the county's 15th library branch to the public.
County Opens Freeman’s Mill Park
Gwinnett County opened its newest, but perhaps most historic park on Saturday, May 8th. Freeman's Mill Park, located at 1401 Alcovy Road in Lawrenceville includes the historic gristmill, shown below, a play area and open space on 14 acres along the Alcovy River.
Commissioner Beaudreau spoke at the grand opening ceremonies, and assisted with the ribbon cutting.
Mike Won't Run for Congress and Endorses Clay Cox.
After thoughtful consideration, I have decided that I can better serve Gwinnett and District 3 by remaining as your commissioner. As a result, I will not run for Congress.
Instead, I support state Representative Clay Cox as the man to replace U.S. Rep. John Linder.
I especially value Rep. Cox's business background and history as an effective Conservative leader.
I strongly considered the seat, but the one thing that makes my decision easier is that we have a man like Clay.
Clay has always been very responsive to constituents.
And in contrast to his main opponent, Clay was brought up here, went to school here and played football here. I look forward to his representation in Washington.
The video below further explains my reasons for remaining as a commissioner, and why I am endorsing Clay for Georgia's seventh district.
Mike Views Landscaping, Sidewalk Progress along US 78
District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau and Chairman Charles Bannister visited the Park Place area of the Evermore Community Improvement District in early 2009 to view the progress made with the construction of new sidewalks and streetscaping along US Highway 78. Although the Highway 78 widening is being completed with state and federal money, the upgraded pedestrian amenities are being funded through a partnership of the county and the CID.
"The Evermore CID has demonstrated tremendous progress and already delivered exciting improvements to an area of my district in need of attention," said Commissioner Beaudreau. "I have made it a practice to tour the Evermore corridor several times each year, staying abreast of plans and progress. The future of Evermore is indeed bright."
The Park Place area sidewalk project included 2,500 feet of five-foot wide sidewalk, street benches, decorative trash receptacles, painted pedestrian crossing signals, and Evermore sign toppers. The county portion of the project was paid for with money from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
"The Park Place community originally identified this improvement during one of the CID's public input opportunities. With the continued strong support of Chairman Bannister and Commissioner Beaudreau, the Evermore CID will be able to provide additional community improvements as requested by our citizens and businesses", concluded Brett Harrell, Executive Director of the Evermore CID.
Meetings with Mike Let Residents Visit their Commissioner

Mike takes notes on the concerns raised by a district resident at the first Saturday Office Hours.

In order to make county government more accessible to its citizens, Mike meets with district residents on the second Saturday of each month.
He wants to learn directly from citizens about the issues that are important to them. The informal sessions do not require making an appointment, and are first-come, first served.
The July Meetings with Mike will held on Saturday the 31st from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the Tribble Mill Park Holly Pavilion on New Hope Road.
