Gwinnett DOT officials have busy constructing a traffic circle at the intersection of Arnold and Hutchins Roads in District 3. The traffic circle, one of two along major roads in the county, is expected to be completed by the end of the 2007. It replaces the old triangular intersection at the location.
"The new traffic circle serves several purposes," Commissioner Beaudreau explained. "It makes the intersection safer than it was, it will let traffic move faster, and it makes a better looking entrance area for the Cooper's Pond subdivision."
The center of the circle will be landscaped with drought-resistant plants and shrubs. The plantings will be maintained by the Cooper's Pond Homeowner's Association.
Ground Broken for Fire Station 27
Residents in the Loganville / Summit Chase area of District 3 will soon have additional fire protection after Commissioners and Fire Services officials broke ground for the new Fire Station 27, located on Rosebud Road in Loganville. The groundbreaking was held on September 4th, 2007 and the new station should be open in less than a year
In remarks to the people present at the ceremony, Commissioner Beaudreau noted that the new station is part of the county's revitalization efforts in South Gwinnett. With the county's investment of additional SPLOST tax dollars in the area, nearby residents can expect to see their homeowners insurance bills reduced once the station is complete.

New Fire Stations Open in Dacula and Grayson
District 3 residents got additional emergency protection on June 19th, 2007 as county officials opened new fire stations in Dacula and Grayson. Each of the new stations cost about $3.5 million, and were paid for through the county's SPLOST program.
Fire station 27, on Old Fountain Road, provides additional coverage to Hamilton Mill and Dacula.

County officials, Dacula Mayor Wilbanks, and representatives of the design and construction companies cut the ribbon at Gwinnett's newest fire station (at least for an hour or so).

The new station 8 in Grayson is in the same location as the smaller fire station it replaces. The widening of Grayson Highway forced the move, and provided the opportunity to provide a larger facility to serve area residents.
"Public Safety has been one of my priorities since taking office", Commissioner Beaudreau said. "In the last three years, the county has added or replaced three fire stations in District 3, and we will break ground on a new station on Rosebud Road later this summer that will better serve the Lenora area."

Commissioner Beaudreau Presents Family Friendly Award to Gwinnett’s Libraries
Mike Beaudreau presented an Award of Recognition to the Gwinnett County Public Library from Family Friendly Libraries, a national grass roots organization dedicated to increasing awareness of age-inappropriate material in the nation's school and public libraries.
Gwinnett's library system is one of two in the country that received the award in 2007. It won the award because it met seven criteria recommended for public libraries, including the use of internet filters to prevent viewing of inappropriate material, and offering parents the option of limiting their children's ability to borrow certain material from the library's collection. The award was presented at the June meeting of the Library Board of Trustees.
