Gwinnett Voter Information
Poll Locator and Absentee Ballots

This FAQ provides information on Gwinnett County election procedures, including where you can vote, and how you can get an absentee ballot if you won't be able to make it to your polling place on election day. If you need more information, or have any questions about getting to the polls or requesting an absentee ballot, please use our contact form.

When and Where do I Vote?

Polls are open on election day from 7AM to 7PM. All voters in line to vote at 7PM will be able to cast their ballot. You vote at your local precinct, which is printed on your voter registration card.

If you are registered to vote, you can find your precinct and voting location online by following this link. You can also call the county board of elections at (770) 822-8787.

What if I Won't be in the County on Election Day?

If you will be absent from your voting precinct during the entire period the polls are open, you may request an absentee ballot.

Are There Any Other Cases When I Can Vote Absentee?

In addition to being absent from your precinct, you may vote absentee if you meet any of these requirements:

  • You have a physical disability or are a constant caregiver of a disabled person.
  • You are 75 years of age or older.
  • You are serving as an election official.
  • You are observing a religious holiday.
  • You are required to remain on duty in your place of employment for the protection of the health, life or safety of the public during the entire time the polls are open.
  • You are hospitalized on election day.

I Don't Meet Those Requirements. Is There Any Other Way I Can Vote Early?

A new law passed by the Georgia General Assembly now allows for early voting, even if you don't meet the qualifications for absentee voting. Advance voting is available during the week prior to the election. You can vote early by going to the county Elections Office and casting your vote. Early voting is not available on the Monday prior to the Tuesday election day.

How can I Obtain an Absentee Ballot?

In order to receive an absentee ballot, you must first complete a request form within 180 days of election day.

In Gwinnett County, you can get an absentee ballot application by going to the Elections Office at455 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville, or by calling the Elections Office at (770) 822-8787, and asking that one be mailed to you. You can also complete the online Gwinnett County absentee ballot application.

Once you have completed the application, you can mail or fax it to the elections office, or return it in person. If you return it in person, you must cast your vote at the time you return it, assuming that ballots are available for voting.

How do I Return My Absentee Ballot?

All absentee ballots must be returned to the county elections office by 7 PM on election day. You can mail in your ballot, following the instructions provided on the ballot, but make sure you mail it with sufficient time to be received by the deadline. The ballot may also be taken to the elections office, but only by the person who voted the ballot. In the case of disabled or hospitalized voters, the ballot may be returned by the caregiver.
